Waiting periods to take possession???
I was curious as to what current laws state regarding waiting periods after a purchase (for background check etc).
My CCW expired about 10 years ago (stupid me, I know), but I am in the process of getting my new application applied for. However, Indiana is currently swamped with apps, and approval is taking anywhere from 3-4 months based on renewals that guys I work with have just went through. I know that with my CCW, I was able to purchase and leave almost immediately (Instant check and paper work aside). What I would like to know is how long does one wait at a shop or gun show when making a purchase without a CCW until he or she receives possession of the firearm. I would like responses for both handguns and longguns please. Thanks in advance. TW |
Re: Waiting periods to take possession???
In my state, it appears they are taking longer just to piss you off. I just bought a single-shot 22 youth rifle for my son and tptb made me wait 3 days to bring it home. I was pissed so they accomplished their mission. I too have a CCW and have bought handguns and rifles over the counter without issue but these days are different. The dealer I bought it from said that when he calls in to get the ok and they tell him there's a waiting period, if he asks why they'll hang up on him.

Re: Waiting periods to take possession???
Ten days in California for both types of firearms... long enough to make you possibly forget you purchased a firearm in the first place.

Re: Waiting periods to take possession???
In Arizona the NCIS check normally takes 5 minutes. Other than that there is no wait. With a CCW the wiat is bassically how long it takes to fill out the 4473.

Re: Waiting periods to take possession???
In Wisconsin, we dont have a concealed carry permit so the only wait is a 48-hour waiting period on handguns. I bought one in November, one in December and the application process and gun pickup process were both pretty smooth.

BUT! You can buy muzzleloaders and take possession the same day! |
Re: Waiting periods to take possession???
10 business days here for handguns regardless of how many you already own
Rifles are 10 day the first time to get the open permit to aquire. Good for 1 year After that no wait,,,buy as many rifles as you like but still need to take them in to registration. I'd say we are heavily infringed upon here Oh also no CCW |

Re: Waiting periods to take possession???
Florida is weird on waiting periods. Usually its a 3 day wait, but counties can make it a 5 day waiting period. Broward county where I live is 5 days

Re: Waiting periods to take possession???
Love the Ohio wait period. It is however long it takes the salesperson to either type in the info I put on the form, or to speak the info over the phone to the FEDs directly. Pay and walk out with said evil firearm.

+1 gangsta. In spite of some suckitude on different matters, Ohio is great for gun owners.

Waiting to buy a gun?
Never heard of such a thing. Takes about 3 minutes here and I am out the door with whatever I pick off the rack. I cant imagine living somehwere you have to wait 5 or 10 days to get your gun. Im surprised people tolerate that but then again we are talking about Americans. |

Re: Waiting periods to take possession???
In New Mexico there is no state rule. Neither is there registration. However, an FFL must call the fed number and in such cases the fed always, always, always, makes me wait a week for any gun. Just bought a 10/22 this week, yes a friggin 10/22. One week wait.
Nothing on my record that should cause that, at least that I am aware of, but there it is. I don't give an SSAN so maybe that's it, I don't know. You guys should check and see if this is actually the state or the fed. |
Re: Waiting periods to take possession???
I never give my SS.Do not think that is where the "issue" is.
